Played: 126 | Download | Duration: 00:21:10

Show notes

Perfectionist Behaviors
  • Need to be right –There is too much at stake in being wrong!
  • Fear – Taking risks leaves too much open to failure
  • Anger and frustration –They put way too much pressure on themselves and others
  • Control – Lack of control jeopardizes their outcomes
  • Low Self-Confidence –No matter how hard they try, they will never be perfect and therefore good enough
What can you do?

  • Let it go
  • Remember being extraordinary is not the same as being perfect
  • Get accountability
  • Set realistic expectations
  • Accept that good enough is sometimes just good enough
  • Embrace imperfection,it’s much more endearing and much more fun!
Know a perfectionist?

  • Reinforce that no one expects them to be perfect but themselves
  • Ask them to let you help or contribute
  • Don’t let them beat themselves up
  • Let them know if their expectations of themselves or others are too high

Energy Drainers

Energy drainers the things in your life that wear you down, suck out your focus, contentment and happiness. Their suckage just grows and grows. You give ‘em an inch and they take a mile.

How to identify them

Visualization
  • Close your eyes and relax for a minute. Free yourself of distractions so you can focus. Move to a quiet room if you need to.
  • Closing your eyes, think about the last time you were in a really bad mood, felt overwhelmed or were just frustrated. Try and picture that in your mind.
  • Going back to the moment helps you connect more. Being back in the moment, reflect on what got you there. Who was it? What was it? Was it a situation you got stuck in?
  • Do this visualization several times. Keep digging back and trying to identify the sources of frustration.

Getting it down and taking action

  • Writing it down certainly helps to get it out of your head and helps the concepts “stick."
  • Make a list of all the energy drainers you came up with leaving a few lines of space between them. We’re going to use that space to come up with some actions plans.
  • Under each energy drainer, try to think of a few ways you can get rid of the power they have over you but not giving them permission to drain out of you.

Show Notes - Thrive Coaching Podcast #1

Intro
Music provided by Podsafe Music Network.

Setting New Year's resolutions you'll keep
In creating sound New Year's resolutions, make sure that you are setting goals that you can actually work with. You want to make sure that your resolutions are SMART - Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Results Oriented and Time Bound. If you can shape your resolutions around this, you'll have much easier time staying motivated and meeting your goals!

SPECIFIC - What is it that you REALLY want? Don't be afraid to say it. drill down and take about your goals in specifics.
MEASURABLE - Set metrics so that you can track your progress. Give yourself a little leeway and lots of chances to celebrate success. Think about what your current reality is and what you want it to be.
ATTAINABLE - Remember that the balance is to be challenged but not to set yourself up for failure by setting too high of expectations. Setting to high of expectations can be very discouraging and cause you to give up on your efforts.
RESULTS ORIENTED - Think about the end that you what to reach and state that. What do you want to come out of your effort so that you can focus on getting there instead of obsessing of the road that leads you there.
TIME BOUND - Set a deadline for your goal. This helps to keep you motivated and on track and help you to organize your efforts. Make sure your deadline is realistic. Again, don't set yourself up for failure!
